  7. This is version 4.03.00.3211 of the Diamond Stealth 3D Series Windows 95
  8. Display Drivers with InControl Tools 95 version 4.03.121.

  11. I.  Windows 95 Installation Notes
  12. ---------------------------------
  13.  
  14. A.  If Windows 95 is already installed
  15. --------------------------------------
  16.  
  17. 1. When you first install the video card in the system and power on,
  18.    Windows 95 will inform you that it has discovered a new
  19.    "PCI VGA-Compatible Display Adapter" and will prompt you to install
  20.    drivers for it.
  21.  
  22.    If Windows 95 does not display a message about new hardware when you
  23.    start your system, go on with item 6.
  24.  
  25. 2. Insert the SuperCD into your CDROM drive. When prompted for the location
  26.    of your driver files, enter X:\DRIVERS, where "X" is the drive letter
  27.    of your CD-ROM drive. For example, if your CD-ROM is drive D, you would
  28.    type D:\DRIVERS.
  29.  
  30. 3. Click OK, and the driver files will be copied to their destination
  31.    directories.
  32.  
  33.    Sometimes Windows doesn't find all the files on the first try and
  34.    prompts again for the path from which to install drivers. If this
  35.    happens, use X:\DRIVERS again.
  36.  
  37. 4. When prompted to restart your computer, click OK. A dialog box will
  38.    appear, asking if you want to complete the installation. If you want
  39.    to install optional Diamond software:
  40.  
  41. 5. Once Windows 95 restarts you will want to click the "Start" button, then
  42.    choose "Run...".
  43.  
  44. 6. Insert the Diamond SuperCD into the appropriate drive and within
  45.    the "Run" dialog box type the following:
  46.    "x:\START" where x is the corresponding letter of the drive containing
  47.    the Diamond SuperCD with Stealth 3D 2000 Windows 95 Display Drivers.

  49. 7. Once the Diamond SuperCD window appears choose the language for the
  50.    software installation.
  51.  
  52. 8. Click the "Start Installation" button.
  53.  
  54. 9. Confirm your hardware if necessary and click "Next".
  55.  
  56. 10. A dialog box will appear containing the path where InControl Tools 95 will
  57.     be installed. The default path is:
  58.  
  59.         "C:\Program Files\Diamond"
  60.  
  61.     Change the path as necessary.
  62.  
  63.     Select the installation type.  There are three installation types:
  64.     Minimal, Full and Custom.  They are defined as follows:
  65.  
  66.                 Minimal:        This will install only the Diamond Stealth 3D
  67.                                 Series Display Driver.
  68.  
  69.                 Standard:       This will install both the Diamond Stealth 3D
  70.                                 Series Display Driver and InControl Tools 95.
  71.  
  72.                 Custom:         This will allow installation of either the
  73.                                 Diamond Stealth 3D Series Display Driver or
  74.                                 InControl Tools 95.  At the minimum, the Diamond
  75.                                 Stealth 3D Series Display Driver must be installed
  76.                                 during a first-time installation.
  77.  
  78.     For the first installation we recommend the STANDARD installation.
  79.  
  80. 11. If "Custom" was selected in step 15, a dialog box will appear allowing the
  81.     selection of various items.  Select the items to be installed by clicking on
  82.     them with the left mouse button.  When finished, click "Next" to continue.
  83.  
  84. 12. At the "Select Files to be copied" dialog box, click "Next" to begin the
  85.     file copying process.
  86.  
  87. 13. After the files have been copied you will want to click "Finish" in order to
  88.     complete the installation.
  89.  
  90. 14. Windows 95 will ask that the computer be restarted.  Click on "Yes" to
  91.     restart the computer.
  92.  
  93. 15. Once Windows 95 restarts, you will have successfully installed the software
  94.     for your Diamond Stealth 3D Series.  The InControl Tools 95 Wizard will then
  95.     guide you the rest of the way.  Thank you for choosing Diamond!

  98. B.  Installing Windows 95 after installing the Stealth 3D
  99. ---------------------------------------------------------
  100.  
  101. 1.  If you install Windows 95 after you have installed the Stealth 3D Series,
  102.     Windows 95 will use a generic S3 driver for the Stealth 3D Series.  In order
  103.     to install the provided Diamond Stealth 3D Series Windows 95 Display
  104.     Drivers, complete the following steps.
  105.  
  106. 2.  First right click on "My Computer" and select "Properties".  Now select the
  107.     "Device Manager" tab.
  108.  
  109. 3.  Under "Display adapters" you will want to highlight "S3" and click "Remove".
  110.     Then click "OK" to confirm the device removal.
  111.  
  112. 4.  Next select "No" when Windows 95 prompts you to restart the computer.  Note:
  113.     you will want to keep the "Device Manager" open in order to proceed with the
  114.     installation.
  115.  
  116. 5.  From this point on, you will be able to complete the installation by
  117.     continuing with Step 4 which is provided within the section above labeled:
  118.     "A. If Windows 95 is already installed".
  119.

  121. II.  Diamond Refresh Utility
  122. ----------------------------
  123.  
  124. The Diamond Refresh Utility allows you to select the refresh rate for your
  125. monitor which suits you best in addition to providing a display centering
  126. utility.  You may want to have your monitor's manual or specifications with you
  127. while using this utility.
  128.  
  129. A.  To access the Display Centering Utility:
  130. --------------------------------------------
  131.  
  132. 1. Click your right mouse button anywhere on the Windows background.  The
  133.    Windows desktop menu will appear.
  134.  
  135. 2. Next choose "Properties" in order to bring up the "Display Properties" dialog
  136.    box.
  137.  
  138. 3. Now select the "Refresh" tab.
  139.  
  140. 4. Move your mouse cursor to the screen area on the monitor graphic.  You will
  141.    notice that the mouse cursor changes to a hand.
  142.  
  143. 5. Press and hold your left mouse button and move the screen graphic up, down or
  144.    to either side.  Note that your screen is repositioned dynamically as you
  145.    move the mouse.
  146.  
  147. 6. Release your mouse button when your screen is centered.  Note: You can also
  148.    change the screen position dynamically by simultaneously pressing your <Alt>
  149.    key and either the left, right, up or down directional arrow keys.
  150.  
  151. 7. A confirmation message opens to let you verify the change.  Click "Yes" to
  152.    confirm the change or "No" to revert to the previous screen position.  If you
  153.    don't make a choice, the message box is dismissed after a few seconds and the
  154.    screen reverts to it's previous position.

  156. B.  To access the Monitor Refresh Utility: 
  157. ------------------------------------------

  159. 1.  Click your right mouse button anywhere on the Windows background.  The
  160.     Windows desktop menu will appear.
  161.  
  162. 2.  Next choose "Properties" in order to bring up the "Display Properties"
  163.     dialog box.
  164.  
  165. 3.  Now select the "Refresh" tab.
  166.  
  167. 4.  In the lower portion of the dialog box, open the refresh dropdown list by
  168.     clicking on the downward-pointing arrow to the right of the list viewer.
  169.     The list contains all available refresh rates for the currently selected
  170.     monitor type, viewport size and color palette.  Note that some
  171.     configurations offer only one choice.

  173. 5.  If more than one refresh rate is available, you are provided the ability to
  174.     select a new one.
  175.  
  176. 6.  If you select a new refresh rate, a confirmation message box opens.  If the
  177.     new refresh rate appears stable, you can click "Yes" to confirm the
  178.     selection.  If you click "No" or wait a few seconds, the previous refresh
  179.     rate is restored.

  199.   Windows 95 and problems while playing Video-CD or CDI
  200.   -----------------------------------------------------
  201.   Our MPEG playback MCI driver uses the Win95 driver for the CD-ROM 
  202.   drive. If Win95 doesn't support your CD-ROM controller (the CD-ROM
  203.   drive is connected on a IDE port and using the Win95 controller
  204.   driver for the IDE controller), there are 2 workarounds:
  205.  
  206.   - Using the DOS real-mode driver:
  207.   Install the CD-ROM driver in the CONFIG.SYS and MSCDEX.EXE (from 
  208.   the \WINDOWS\COMMAND directory) in AUTOEXEC.BAT. Additionally, it
  209.   could be possible to disable the 32-bit mode for the drives.
  210.  
  211.   - Using a secondary IDE controller:
  212.   Use a secondary IDE controller (normally address 170, IRQ 15 or
  213.   10) supported by Win95. If you use your CD-ROM at this port, the 
  214.   problem should be solved. Only possible if your motherboard uses
  215.   only one IDE controller (normally address 1F0, IRQ 14). You can
  216.   use a second IDE port on newer soundboards with a IDE port (no 
  217.   soundboards with CD-ROM interfaces for special xxx-drives) or a
  218.   simple ISA IDE controller.
